How about these places in Canada?
La Francophonie
Definition: refers to people and countries around the world using the French language. Many francophone countries have other native languages but, usually stemming from France’s colonial history, there is a strong presence of French culture and language, and a significant proportion of the population speak French. El Mundo hispano
Before we get started, here’s a little about me. This will be my 7th year teaching at Haynes Bridge. For the first four years I taught both French and Spanish. Since 2010 I have been teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade French. To my great delight this year I'll be teaching a 7th Grade Beginning Spanish class. I'm looking forward to a rewarding year with all my students!
I grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, and after graduating from the University of the West Indies, Mona, I taught English in France, and French and Spanish in Jamaica and the Bahamas, before moving to the US. I have two boys, a 19 year old entering his 3rd year in college this fall, and a rising 9th grader, both of whom love sports, especially baseball, and have had to learn three national anthems!
I’ve always believed that learning to speak a foreign language and becoming familiar with the culture of that language is a major part of a someopne's personal development. It leads to increased global understanding, better appreciation of international literature, film and music, and more enjoyable travel abroad. Not only that, it simply expands post-secondary studies and improves employment potential. It is so rewarding to bring this real life, real time opportunity to achieve success way beyond school to my students.
It is my mission to help my students become proficient in French and Spanish, and to embrace the cultures of the people who speak these languages. I’m looking forward to an exciting, rewarding year as we embark upon this adventure in Room 72.
Allons-y!
